TipTop Driving School has operated since 1997, founded and led by Tibor Kolosai. The Budapest branch brings that same approach into city driving: experienced instructors, clear guidance and patient teaching. Learning to drive is never the same journey for everyone. Some learners need more time, others need more confidence. The school adapts to that with a practical, calm and human approach.

Entry requirements

  • Age: Minimum age to start is 16.5 years. You can take the final practical driving exam once you turn 17.
  • Education: A minimum of 8 years of primary education is required.
  • Medical: You must have a valid medical fitness certificate from your GP (General Practitioner).

Medical Fitness Check

A short, routine examination with your doctor. What is typically checked:

  • Eyesight
  • Blood pressure
  • General health and physical condition

KRESZ theory course (E-learning)

Study online from the comfort of home at your own pace, with 180 days of access. Key topics:

  • Road rules and traffic scenarios
  • First aid basics
  • Vehicle technical fundamentals

Theory (KRESZ) exam

A computer-based test that is very manageable with proper preparation.

  • Timeline: Your first attempt must be within 9 months of registration, and you must pass within 12 months.
  • Format: 55 questions, 75 maximum points.
  • Passing score: A minimum of 65 points is required.

First aid exam

Organized by the Hungarian Red Cross, this course provides vital, real-world life-saving skills. Topics include:

  • CPR and resuscitation basics
  • Treating common injuries
  • Emergency scene management

Practical Driving in Budapest

Once you pass your theory exam, you can begin behind-the-wheel lessons with your instructor.

  • Mandatory minimum: 29 lessons + 1 exam lesson.
  • Focus areas: Vehicle control, parking maneuvers, city driving, mountain driving, highway driving and confident decision-making in live traffic.

The Practical Driving Exam

During the final test, the examiner evaluates:

  • Lawful and observant driving
  • Safe and confident vehicle control

Applying for Your License

Once you have passed all exams, the final administration is straightforward:

  • Your exam results are automatically uploaded to the national system.
  • You can apply for your physical license at any government office (Kormányablak).
  • Your license card will be delivered by post.
